Episode 193 - Marcus Rentie

Marcus Rentie is leaning over, giving his dog a drink of water from a bottle during a run. The dog is brown and white with pointy ears and a bushy tail, and wearing a harness which is strapped around Marcus.

Marcus Rentie and his trail dog Batman out on the trails of California.

Kia ora e te whānau. This week on the podcast Matt and Eugene call California to catch up with Marcus Rentie … a resident of LA where he grew up loving all sorts of sports including stunt roller-blading - yes, that is a thing - and started running, then found the trails and hasn’t looked back. One of the reasons we wanted to talk to Marcus was about the non-profit organisation he has founded called Trail Folx which aims to provide opportunities for underprivileged and underserved youth in Los Angeles. The goal is to increase representation in outdoor sports. We talk to him all about this, as well as the weekly trail runs he hosts in the Los Angeles hills, how spreadsheets and the running scene in LA intersect, and this trail dog named Batman! We also cover off some of the weekend’s racing including course records Down South. Enjoy!
